DONNELLSON - The Central Lee girls basketball team moved to .500 on the year with 53-48 win over Keokuk in a physical game Saturday at home.

The Lady Hawks got 21 points from senior Mya Merschman and 16 from Makayla Morrison in the win, but Merschman tweaked her shoulder down the stretch. The extent of the injury is unknown.

Junior guard Macy Watkins is also day-to-day with an ankle injury.

Head Coach Jay Baldwin said more will be known about the two injuries on Monday.

Junior Abby Wolter poured in a game-high 25 for the Chiefs.

Central Lee held a slim 12-11 margin going into the second period with nine of the 12 coming from Merschman.

Keokuk would tie things up halfway through the second period at 14, but Central would score four unanswered to move ahead 18-14. Keokuk would rely on a couple 3-balls from Lyndsey Campbell and Kayde Martin to pull within two at the half 23-21.

Central would utilize a more balanced scoring attack in the third with four players getting in on the scoring led by Ella Sanders five to push the lead to 35-32 going into the final period.

The Lady Hawks were able to hold Keokuk scoreless for about four minutes down the stretch, but the Chiefs rallied putting up eight in the final 90 seconds. Morrison kept getting sent to the three throw line and converted six of 10 to put the game away.

Morrison's 16 was a season-high for the sophomore. Watkins and Sanders both chipped in with seven, and Kelsie Stewart rounded out the scoring with a bucket.

Martin had 10 to go with Wolter's 25. Campbell had eight for Keokuk.

Central Lee (3-3) has some time to heal up as they are off until Friday when they travel to Holy Trinity Catholic for a girls/boys varsity double header. Keokuk (1-1) hosts Clark County Monday night and then hosts Fort Madison on Friday.
