Nola J. Joy, 88, of Keokuk, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Nola was born on January 9, 1932, in Scotland County, Missouri, the daughter of James Calvin and Lena Bell (Jeffrey) Brown. She graduated from Memphis High School in 1949 with her husband Glen Fugate, whom she married on April 1, 1995, in Keokuk, Iowa. He survives. Nola was an active member of Keokuk politics, serving on the Keokuk city council for many years. She was also a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president from 1981-1982 and again from 1995-1996. On December 15, 2003, she was awarded the Keokuk Chamber of Commerce December Ambassador Spotlight for nine years of dedication and commitment to the Keokuk Ambassador’s Committee. Nola was also a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. She was a world traveler, embarking on adventures to Europe and other far-away destinations. Nola was also known for the beautiful Christmas wreaths that she made.

Nola is survived by her husband Glen Fugate of Keokuk; three siblings: Aloha Coffrin, Norma Fincher and Gene (Jona) Brown; two step-sons: David William Fugate, Jr., and Douglas Jay Fugate and their families; and several nieces and nephews.

Nola is preceded in death by her first husband Billy Joe Bennett and her son Tony J. Bennett, who were killed in the Amory Explosion on November 24, 1965.

No services will be held at this time.
