MT. PLEASANT - Ryan Smith won't call it business as usual, but Thursday night's sweep over Mt. Pleasant and Mid-Prairie was as close as it gets.

The Bloodhounds have started the season pretty hot rolling to two sweeps of the last two triangulars and won a duals title in Missouri last weekend.

On Thursday the Hounds downed the host Panthers 48-30 in the first match of the triangular, then came back from 12 down to beat Mid-Prairie 54-30 despite being empty handed at 220 and 285.

"We're kind of giving up heavyweight forfeits right now, so there's not big room for errors, but we have enough solid kids that we're able to get the job done," Smith said.

The Wiseman brothers, Gavin and Henry both knotched two wins on the night. Henry at 106 is now 11-1 on the year and may start getting sniffs on state ranking boards, but does have a couple forfeits sprinkled in.

The freshman wrapped up Abby Blint in the first period at the 1-minute mark for six points. He finished up the night with a forfeit against Mid-Prairie.

Gavin, a junior, was the only Hound with two pins on the night. Wiseman took care of Mt. Pleasant's Carson Andreasen in just 36 seconds and then got the best of the Golden Hawks' Evan Phillips just past the 1 minute mark of the 1st period.

"I've been pretty happy for the most part, but I still have a lot of stuff to improve on this year," he said.

Wiseman is hoping for his first trip to Des Moines for the state wrestling tournament in February. Wiseman just missed his first two years and is 8-1 since the season opener in New London.

"New London was the first tournament and I was just getting back into it after football season. But I'm feeling good now," he said.

"We're wrestling well as a team and a lot of new guys have stepped in this year to fill spots that we didn't know if we'd fill or not. But there is still a lot of improvement we can do," Wiseman said.

Smith said Wiseman is wrestling well and looking for points.

"He's looking really good and scoring right now," Smith said. "He's trying not to coast and he's putting points on the board. I like the way he's wrestling."

The Hounds also got two wins from Austin Miller (136), Mason Schau (160), and Teague Smith (152), all won one match by forfeit, but then recorded pins in the other match.

The hardluck event of the night went to freshman Ike Thacher who lost 11-9 in sudden victory to Mt. Pleasant's Chase Irving at 170. Thacher was down by 1 with less than five seconds left in the third period, but managed an escape just before the buzzer to send it into an extra session.

Irving was able to get a leg on the restart and roll Thacher down for the sudden win.

Thacher would rebound for a pin in the Mid-Prairie dual over Kaden Meader midway through the second period.

Smith said he wasn't too alarmed when the Hounds got down 12 points 25-12 in the Mid-Prairie match.

"I knew we would turn the tides in the second half of that match," he said. "We're gonna take some hits in spots depending on the strength of the other team, but typically were balanced enough to overcome it."

Fort Madison will host the annual Fort Madison Invitational on Saturday hosting 15 teams from Iowa and Missouri. No fans are being allowed into the game, but livestreaming is available at the following links.
