FORT MADISON - A local man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with incident early Saturday morning in Fort Madison.

According to a release from the Fort Madison Police Department, Isaac R. Patino, 41, is currently in Lee County Jail on a charge of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a 71-year-old man in the chest with a pair of scissors

Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff said the incident occurred at home in the 3600 block of Avenue L at about 7:35 a.m. Saturday.

"Officers, along with the Fort Madison Fire Department, and Lee County EMS, responded to the call from the 71-year-old male victim, reporting that he had been stabbed and beaten," Rohloff wrote in the release.

"It was learned that the victim, and unrelated suspect, were among three adults that occupy the residence. The suspect and victim were reportedly drinking alcohol, when Patino became enraged and stabbed the victim in the chest with a pair of scissors.

"The victim claimed he was also struck multiple times about the head and chest with a metal cane. Patino was restrained by the other adult and had passed out before the call for assistance was made."

Rohloff indicated the victim was taken by ambulance to the Fort Madison Community Hospital where he remains in serious, but stable condition.

Patino was initially taken to the hospital for observation, then later to the Lee County Jail where he’ll remain incarcerated pending arraignment.
