Hila (Kirkpatrick) Nickel, 96, of Keokuk, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Hila was born on May 6, 1924, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of J.F. and Nelly (Ege) Kirkpatrick. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1942, and was united in marriage to Clyde Nickel on December 23, 1950, in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2020.

A lifelong resident of Keokuk, Hila was a member of First Christian Church of Keokuk and worked as a clerk for Union Electric until her retirement in 1984. In her younger years, she was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club. After her retirement, she enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Florida with her husband Clyde. Together, they enjoyed attending races, and attended the Daytona 500 for thirty years in a row. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Hila is survived by two sons: C. Douglas (Cynthia) Nickel and Dart A Nickel, both of Keokuk; three grandchildren: Ginna (Zac) Fuller of Keokuk, Jerrad (Beth) Nickel of Danville, Iowa, and Jacob (Mary Jo) Nickel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five great-grandchildren: Brennan Fuller, Jillian, Leah, Karsyn and Austin Nickel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hila is preceded in death by her husband Clyde, three sisters and two brothers.

A private family service will be held at Keokuk National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or for Camp Courageous at Monticello, Iowa.
