Dawn Marie Monical, 84, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Dawn was born on May 16, 1936, in East Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph Ritter, Sr. and Hazel (Alberts) Ritter. On June 14, 1969, she was united in marriage to George “Ed” Monical at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1998.

In her younger years, Dawn worked as a chef at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Hotel Iowa, and later worked at Arrowhead Bowl in the 1960’s. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Elks Ladies Golf Club and the women’s bowling leagues. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards or any type of game, and gardening. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and Doris Day music and movies.

Dawn is survived by seven children: Jim (Pat) Monical of Locust Grove, Virginia, Bill Monical of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Mike Monical of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, John (Diane) Monical of Keokuk, Kathleen (Sonny) Wellborn of Glasgow, Missouri, Tim Monical of Keokuk, and Jennifer (Douglas) Seitz of Keokuk; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother Ray Ritter of Texas; and two sisters-in-law: Minote Monical and Jean (Bob) Rench, both of Keokuk. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, and fourteen siblings.

Dawn’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11 am on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 7 pm, with family meeting friends from 4 to 7 pm. For the safety of those attending, masks and social distancing will be required. The funeral service will be live-streamed at the DeJong-Greaves-Printy Facebook page via Facebook Live.
