Arrests made in Friday Hancock County murder

HANCOCK COUNTY - On Friday Dec. 18 at approximately 12:47 a.m., the Hancock County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to shots fired in Augusta, Illinois. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located one deceased male, forty-three (43) year old Christopher D. Ellington who died of an apparent gunshot wound.
The investigation led to the arrests of 24-year-old Cody J. Johnson and 24-year-old Michael A. Garcia. The suspects were arrested on warrants in Grady County, Georgia where they await extradition proceedings.
Hancock County State's Attorney Rachel B. Mast charged Cody J. Johnson and Michael A. Garcia both with first-degree Murder, two counts of home invasion, both Class X Felony, and aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 Felony
Bail has been set at $5 million for Johnson. Bail has been set at $2.5 million for Garcia.
The case is currently being investigated by the Illinois State Police and the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Grady County Georgia Sheriff's Office, and Decatur County Georgia Sheriff's Office.
The investigation remains ongoing and any information should be forwarded to the Illinois State Police Zone 4. The Hancock County State's Attorney's Office will make no further statements regarding the prosecution of these individuals.
Johnson and Garcia are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
