Demons rally to down FM boys

WASHINGTON - The Demons converted four straight free throws in the final minute to defeat the Bloodhounds Tuesday night.

Washington held the Hounds to just two points over a five minute span in the final period to tie things up at 51 before completing the rally for a 58-55 win in Southeast Conference action.

Fort Madison fell behind early by nine 12-3, but put on a furious race to the locker room out scoring Washington 26-11 over the next 10 minutes to get even at 29 at the half.

Junior Dayton Davis put up 14 of his game-high 22 as part of the rally, and Phillip Goldie scored nine in the first half to help the Hounds get back in the game.

Junior Miles Dear would foul out in frenzied 4th quarter after putting up 12 points down the stretch as the Hounds tried to hang on for the upset.

Fort Madison would get a field goal at about the six-minute mark of the 4th and then would go quiet. With about two minutes left in the game, the Hounds would get eight straight points from the free-throw line from Dear, Davis and Goldie, while being held without a field goal.

The Demon's Ethan Patterson, who finished with a team-high 21 laced a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to give Washington the lead 54-51. Then it was free throw contest to the end with Patterson adding another four from the stripe to put the game away.

Dear finished with 14 points on the night, followed by 11 from Goldie. Turnbull had five in the game and Landes Williams added a 3-pointer to round the scoring for Fort Madison.

The Hounds (3-4, 1-2) are off until January 5th when they start a four-game home stand with conference rival Fairfield. Washington improves to 3-0 in loop play and 5-1 overall.
