Female inmate dies in cell at Lee County Jail

MONTROSE – On Tuesday, members of the Lee County Jail, while performing jail cell checks, discovered an unresponsive female inmate.

The inmate, identified as Stacy Lynn Heston, age 50 was the lone occupant of the cell and CPR was performed and an AED was administered by staff.

Ms. Heston was transported by ambulance to the Emergency Room of the Fort Madison Community Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations were summoned to the scene and they are currently investigating the incident with the assistance from the detectives of the Lee County Sheriffs Office.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy to be performed at a later date. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Ms. Heston had turned herself into the jail earlier the same day to begin a 59-day jail sentence.

No other information on the incident is being released at this time.
