BURLINGTON - Notre Dame jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead and never looked back enroute to a 64-50 win over Holy Trinity in both teams final games before the holiday break.

The Crusaders held early leads of 4-2 and 6-5, but a 9-2 run at the end of the first quarter spurred by senior Matt Johnson's eight points, put some separation between the two squads.

Vasin Thurman had nine of his team high 15 in the first half. Three other Crusaders were in double figures on the night, but HTC couldn't put a run together at the end to narrow the gap.

The Nikes (5-2, 2-2) and ranked 13th in Class 1A in the latest BC Moore rankings, held just a six-point advantage at the break, but extended that to 14 in the third period.

Holy Trinity would cut the lead to 10 with about four minutes left in the game as Tyler Snaadt put in a couple long-range 3s to try and get the Crusaders back in it.

Notre Dame (5-2, 2-2) would go on a 12-4 run midway through the final period to put the game out of reach.

Chandler Rung finished with 13 points, Snaadt and Jason Thurman both had 10 in the loss. Mikey DiPrima had two points.

Johnson led Notre Dame with 19 points.

The Crusaders fall to 5-3 on the year and 4-3 in the conference with the loss. They resume play on Jan. 5 with a run-in on the road at Wapello (5-0, 6-0).
