FORT MADISON - There's just two days left to make a contribution to the Fort Madison PAW animal shelter construction project.

An anonymous donor has stepped forward and will match dollar for dollar every donation up to $30,000 by the end of the year.

PAW Director Sandy Brown said the group has received "a nice chunk" of donations toward the new building project, but said there is still time to take advantage of the matching funds.

"And remember, we're all donations are 100% tax deductible," she said.

"We can take donations via credit card on our Facebook page, our website, over the phone or you can drop them off or mail them in.

PAW's Facebook page can be accessed here: https://www.facebook.com/PAW-Fort-Madison-Animal-Shelter-179648212052707 and their website is accessible by clicking here: http://www.pawfortmadison.com/

She said any donations mailed must be postmarked by the end of the day Dec. 31, 2020.

All the funds received are earmarked for the new construction project.

The group kicked off the fundraising campaign earlier this fall. They had been looking at the possibility of a capital campaign to construct a new shelter more than two years ago.

Brad Walker, president the PAW shelter located on 48th Street, said during the launch, that the project could cost in excess of $5 million, but the group is willing to take on the project bit by bit.

A recent private memorial donation of close to $150,000 finished paying off the land for the new facility and covered design costs. The board financed the land in 2018. The current facility sits on about two acres, but with the new land, the footprint is expanded to close to six acres.

PAW has been in the current facility since 1990 and Walker said instead of continuing to throw money at the old facility, it was time to start looking to the future.
