Task force makes area felony arrests

LEE COUNTY - The Lee County Narcotics Task Force has announced four arrests over the past week on felony narcotics charges.

Mark Larsen, 50, of Keokuk, Iowa was arrested on Dec. 31st. Larsen was charged with two counts of delivery of methamphetamine less than five grams - each a Class C Felony; maintaining a drug house; an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of controlled substance 2nd Offense Methamphetamine; an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia; a simple misdemeanor. Larsen will also be held on an outstanding warrant from Illinois for failure to appear on an original charge of going armed and dangerous and resisting arrest.

During the same warrant execution in the 1600 block of Timea Street, in Keokuk, Justin Althide, 43, of Warsaw, Illinois was arrested. Althide was charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Althide will also be held on outstanding warrants for failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance.

Westley Grace, 31, of Keokuk, Iowa was arrested during the same warrant search. Grace is charged with an outstanding Keokuk warrant for contempt of court for failure to pay fines. Grace is also being held on a Polk County warrant for aggravated assault.

The Lee County Narcotics Task Force also reported the arrest of a Fort Madison man on a felony drug charge.

Howard Burgess, 38, of Fort Madison, Iowa was arrested on December 31st following a traffic stop in Fort Madison.

Burgess was arrested for Driving While Barred and transported to the Lee County Jail. Burgess was also charged with delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine a Class C Felony.
The arrest of Burgess stems from an ongoing investigation conducted by the Lee County Narcotics Task Force where Burgess was suspected of delivering methamphetamine within the Lee County area.

The Lee County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Fort Madison Police Department assisted the Lee County Narcotics Task Force in this investigation.

The defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The Lee County Narcotics Task Force is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Justice and the funds administered by the Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy.
