WAYLAND - Central Lee boys Head Coach Evan Swanson said good teams win ugly.

And what was shaping up to be an ugly season has quickly turned around as the Hawks won their second straight knocking off WACO 66-54 Tuesday night in both teams first games back from the holiday break.

Prior to the holiday, the Hawks knocked off Class 1A powerhouse New London 59-55 at home for an early Christmas gift in Southeast Iowa Superconference South division action.

On Tuesday, Bronson Sargent broke out for a game- and season-high 23 points to lead Central Lee.

Dylan Stuecker had 17 points and Jaxon Betker scored 13 in the win. Sargent also had eight rebounds to lead the Hawks.

"It was a rough game. We were sloppy and made a lot of mistakes," Swanson said. "You could tell it has been a while since we played a game, but good teams win ugly."

After posting a 32-13 first half lead, the Hawks opened the door a bit in the third period.

The Hawks have struggled most of the year coming out of the locker room at halftime, and again were outscored by the Warriors 13-10 in the third period. But they pulled things back together in the fourth putting up 24 points to seal the win.

Sargent went to the free throw line 10 times in the second half completing half as the Hawks pulled away.

Central Lee hosts Cardinal of Eldon (2-3, 4-3) on Friday night in Donnellson.
