Schneider scores 14 to lead Crusaders over Arrows

WAPELLO - The Holy Trinity Crusaders got 14 points from junior Raquel Schneider as they snapped an eight-game losing skid Tuesday night in Wapello.

The Crusaders used a 15-10 3rd quarter advantage to break open an even game that had at least eight lead changes for a 51-46 win. The win takes the Crusaders to 3-8 overall. They stand at 2-6 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division.

The Arrows are 0-4 in the SEISC North Division and 2-6 overall.

The two squads exchanged leads in the first quarter with Wapello holding an 11-10 lead going into the second.

The score went back and forth all the way through to the half with neither team leading by more than two points. Wapello, behind 14 first half points from senior Sammy Ewart, would outscore the Crusaders 5-3 in the final minute of the half to tie things up at 24 at the break.

Wapello would open the scoring with a bucket with about a minute gone in the third, then HTC would go on a 5-0 run to take a 29-24 lead.

The Arrows would come back to take a 34-33 lead with two minutes left in the period, but a 3-point play would give the Crusaders the lead back at 36-34. Holy Trinity would go to the free throw line and hit three of four in the final minutes of the 3rd to take a 39-34 lead into the final period.

The Crusaders would hold onto that lead most of the way through the fourth with Wapello only able to cut the lead to four at 47-43.

Mary Kate Bendlage was in double digits for the Crusaders at 10. Kassi Randolph had eight points on the night. Kayla Box had seven points, Brooke Mueller had six, while Natalie Randolph, Maria Rauenbuehler, and Bailey Hellweg each scored six for HTC.

Sammy Ewart had 16 to lead Wapello.

Holy Trinity hosts New London on Friday night in SEISC South matchup.
