WAPELLO - A second half rally came up short Tuesday night as the Holy Trinity boys fell to undefeated Wapello 56-48.

The Crusaders were all over Wapello in the second half outscoring the Indians 21-6 in the third period behind Vasin and Jason Thurman's 16 combined points.

But Wapello had the quick start jumping out to an 18-8 first quarter lead and then held the Crusaders to just a bucket in the second period stretching their lead to 30-10 at the half.

HTC got six of their 10 from Vasin Thurman in the first two periods.

The Indians Rhett Smith and Trenton Murray combined for 20 points in the first half, but some adjustments by the Crusaders in the second half held the two to a total of just eight in the second half.

The Crusaders trailed by just five points going into the final period and cut that lead to four at 38-34 behind a couple long balls from Vasin Thurman, who put up 17 points in the second half. Jason Thurman and Chandler Rung also had 3-pointers in the fourth quarter rally.

Wapello was able to keep the HTC charge are arms length the rest of the way. HTC trailed 50-45 with a minute left, but the Indians would run out the score on a 6-3 run, all from the free throw line, to put the game away.

Vasin Thurman would finish with 23 points to lead all scorers on the night. Jason Thurman has 12 for HTC, while Chandler Rung had 10, Kadin Medland hit a 3-ball in the fourth quarter race for his three points on the night and Mikey DiPrima had a bucket.

Wapello had four players in double figures led by Murray's 15. Maddox Griffin had 14, all in the second half as the Crusaders tightened things up on Smith and Murray.

Holy Trinity is 6-3 overall and 5-4 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South division and hosts New London, losers of two straight, Friday night.
