Donald E Benson, 87 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 4:32 am Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison. He was born October 7, 1933, a son of Donald I and Iva (Warden) Benson. On February 17, 1973 he married Verla Sedore. She survives.
Don was a veteran of the United States Army, and he served in Korea during the Korean War. He was a telegrapher for the railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fort Madison.
He is survived by his wife, Verla Benson; three sons: Tony (Kathy), Barry, and Kurt (Mindy); one daughter, Valerie (Kelly) Kern; one brother, David (Sharon) Benson; one sister, Linda Booth; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Michael, and one son, Brian.
No formal services are planned at this time. A memorial has been established for the First Baptist Church, contributions may be made directly to Barr Memorial Chapel, 1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.
