MT. PLEASANT - Fort Madison pulled away in the final quarter Friday night to get a 36-31 win over the Panthers on the road.

The win erased an early season overtime loss to Mt. Pleasant at home, the Bloodhounds only loss of the year.

The Lady Hounds are now 7-1 on the year and 3-1 in conference play and are just one point away from a perfect year so far with the 62-61 Panthers loss back on Dec. 4.

Junior transfer Mallory Ross led the Hounds again with 14 points. Senior Brandy Walker scored 11 as Fort Madison used the outside game of Ross to open up the inside scoring.

Mt. Pleasant held a slim 8-7 lead heading into the second period, but the Lady Hounds were able to turn the tables a bit behind Ross' eight points to to a hold a 13-12 lead in a low scoring first half.

Fort Madison would hold Mt. Pleasant to just six third quarter points, five by sophomore Tristian Shull, while the Hounds got four from Ross. Molly Knipe and Irelynd Sargent each had buckets in the third to help Fort Madison push the lead to five at 23-18.

The third quarter advantage proved to be the difference in the game as the two teams played a 13-13 fourth quarter with Walker scoring seven of the Hounds points to hold on for the win.

Camille Kruse had five for Fort Madison. Sargent and Knipe combined for six.

The win snapped a 3-game winning streak for the Panthers (5-5, 3-2). The Lady Hounds face Central Lee (6-4, 5-3) and the state's top scorer in Mya Merschman today at the Hound Dome with an approximate start time of 5 p.m.
