Load rating increased for FM bridge

FORT MADISON - According to Fort Madison city officials, the load rating on the BNSF bridge between Niota and Fort Madison has been increased.

The bridge had been on a temporary 3-ton weight limit while repairs were being made, but that embargo has been lifted and now traffic weighing up to 20 tons can cross the bridge.

Additional repairs will be made that will increase the load rating to 30 tons, but the 20 ton limit will remain in effect until further notice.
