According to police reports, at about 2:53 a.m. Sunday morning, there was a report of shots being fired in the 800 block of Avenue G.

Officers had been there at a disturbance call approximately a half hour earlier and were still in the vicinity at the time. The involved parties had fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The block was closed for about an hour to facilitate interviews and collect evidence.

There were no reports of injuries.

The role of the subject apprehended, and the circumstances that led up to the incident, remain under investigation by the police. Witness statements, surveillance video, and physical evidence, support this was a dispute between individuals and not a random occurrence, according to Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff.

Rohloff wrote in a follow up release Tuesday, that in the interest of protecting the integrity of the investigation, the results of the search warrant, case details, and suspect information will not be release at this time.

Additional arrests are anticipated.

Several Fort Madison businesses and apartments have reported several thousands of dollars in window damage and other property damage resulting from the gunfire.

Rohloff said officers recovered multiple casings at the scene.
