Three injured in Thursday evening crash

FORT MADISON - On March 4, 2021 at 7:45 PM officers of the Fort Madison Police Department were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Avenue O just east of the intersection of 37th St. numerous 911 calls had been received reporting multiple injuries at the scene.

Officers learned that a westbound 2011 Ford Focus operated by Caleb Wiggins (18) of Fort Madison, made a left-hand turn into the path of an oncoming 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by Harry Hoenig (73) also of Fort Madison. The subsequent broadside collision because both vehicles to spin in the roadway and stop in the eastbound lanes.
Fort Madison firefighters extricated two passengers in the car, Gavin Horton (15) and Jade Rain (17), both of Fort Madison. A third passenger Maxwell Brunswig (15) of Burlington was also injured but out of the vehicle. The three were taken by to the Fort Madison Community Hospital by Lee County EMS. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Both drivers also reported minor injuries and were to seek treatment on
their own.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene and are likely totaled. Wiggins was cited for failure to yield.
