Hounds run in season's only indoor event

CEDAR FALLS - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds Track & Field team opened its 2021 season at the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls Tuesday.

The Relays at UNI are the only indoor competition the Hounds will compete in this year as all other normally scheduled indoor runs have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Twenty Hounds made the trip for the Relays with only a week of practice, and set six personal best times.

The best finish of the day came from Austin Miller who took 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.66, a personal best for the junior who qualified last fall for the State Cross Country meet finishing 35th overall. Garrett Hannum finished 27th with a time of 55.94, in a field of 77.

The Bloodhounds 4x200 team of Brock Califf, Tate Johnson, Joey Dodson and Jacob McGowan finished 13th with a time of 1:38.14.

The 4x400 team, in the last race of the day, composed of Califf, Andrew Schaefer, Landes Williams, and Garrett Hannum motored to a 17th-place finish with a time of 3:48.64.

In the shot put, Ethan Deacon finished 20th with a toss of 43-9, which is a personal best for him. Cuyrin Ross also had a personal best with a throw of 35-9 good enough for 50th in a field of 79.

Jacob McGowan jumped 19-1.5 placing 23rd in the long jump and Kane Williams jumped 17-8 placing 47th. There were 68 competitors and both of those marks were personal bests.

Mikey DiPrima competed in the high jump and cleared 5-6 placing 31st.

The 4x800 team of Austin Miller, Nick Fullenkamp, Hayden Wolfe, and Chay Smith posted a team time of 9:52.61 placing 31st. Macaden Rhoer ran the 60 hurdles and posted a time of 10.33. Calem Maclearn and Seth Mendez each sprinted in the 60-meter dash finishing at 8.01 and 8.22 respectively.

Gavin Wiseman and Mikey DiPrima both sprinted in the 200 meters. Wiseman posted a personal best in a time of 25.21 placing 41st, while DiPrima placed 38th with a time of 25.09 just ahead of Wiseman.

Nick Fullenkamp, running his second 800 of the day, posted a time of 2:31.14 and Macaden Rhoer posted a time of 2:27.81.They placed 65th and 57th respectively.

"We're pretty happy with the way our guys competed today," said co-Coach Chad Hannum.

"We’re excited for the outdoor season.Hopefully mother nature provides us with some great track meet weather."

The Hounds open the outdoor season in two weeks at Washington.
