FM girls start year with 8-2 route over Canton

FORT MADISON - Senior Claire Pothitakis scored four goals to lead Fort Madison to an 8-2 win over Canton, Mo. Tuesday night at the Baxter Sports Complex.

The girls are in the first year of co-op program with Holy Trinity Catholic. The Bloodhounds saw the benefits of the shared program early and often as three HTC girls scored a combined six goals in the win.

Fort Madison's Brandy Walker had two goals and an assist. Taylor Crabtree and Mary Kate Bendlage, both of HTC each scored a goal in the win.

Kailyn Guzman had eight saves as keeper for the Bloodhounds.

Lily Scott, Bendlage, Alyssa Fincher, Camille Kruse, Sydney Amberger, Marissa Frantz, Morgan Meierotte and Molly Knipe were all mentioned for their defensive efforts.

The Hounds are now 1-0 under first year coach Carrie Burken and play at Washington on Thursday.
