Hounds move to 3-0 in boys tennis

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison boys tennis team held on for a 5-4 nail biter at home against Keokuk on Monday night.

The Hounds got their usual wins from Jason and Vasin Thurman and Nos. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

But it came down to a tight No. 3 doubles match between Fort Madison's Kadin Medland and Tyler Horn, who knocked off the Chief's Brendon Worster and Noah Kelly in a 7-5, 6-4 win to keep Fort Madison undefeated on the year.

Medland also got a win at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Worster. Kelly defeated Horn in the No. 6 slot in a tiebreaker 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Jason Thurman rolled past Abbott Haner 6-0, 6-1 and Vasin Thurman dropped Callum Tackes 6-1, 6-1 at the top of the singles events.

Kaiden Stoneking then edged Fort Madison Levi Sissell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Ivan Lopez knocked off the Hounds Bryce Workman 6-1, 6-2 in the court to the east at No. 4 singles for a 3-3 tie at the end of singles play.

In doubles play the Thurman brothers knocked off Tackes and Stoneking 6-1, 6-0. Haner played in the No. 2 doubles spot for the Chiefs with Lopez and the two eased past Workman and Sissell 6-2, 6-1 setting up the No. 3 doubles match for the win.

The Hounds take on Burlington at Dankwardt Park on Thursday before returning home for a varsity match with Fairfield. Both events are 4:30 starts.
