Pothitakis goes for 4 in Hounds win at BHS

BURLINGTON - Mitchell Pothitakis scored four goals and had an assist to lead the 13th-ranked Bloodhounds past Burlington 5-1 on Thursday in Southeast Conference boys soccer.

Pothitakis converted his fourth penalty kick in just two games, one with 3:30 left in the first half and then another with 12 minutes gone in the second half to spot Fort Madison to a 3-0 lead. Xander Williams got the Hounds on the board with a goal 8:30 into the game on an assist from Pothitakis and Jacob Pothitakis.

Mitchell Pothitakis would score the next two, both on assists from Wellman with 19 minutes left in the match and again at 10 minutes left.

Tate Settles gave up a goal 30 seconds after Pothitakis' final score to prevent the shut out. Settles and Reiburn Turnbull each played a half in the net and neither had a save.

Fort Madison improves to 6-1 on the year with the only loss being an early season OT loss to Class 1A No. 2 Burlington Notre Dame. The are a perfect 5-0 in conference play and travel to Washington on Monday.

Fort Madison also won the jayvee game 3-0. Leif Boeding and Jamarkus Kline each had goals. Boeding's was unassisted and Kline scored on passes from Carson Rashid and Nathan Wiggins. Connor Gehling and Settles split time as keeper each corralling a save.
