Leonard George Witting, 90, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at his home.

Leonard was born on January 5, 1931, in Houghton, Iowa, the son of Henry and Kathryn (Woerdeman) Witting. On November 15, 1958, he married Sylvia Steffensmeier at St. James the Less Catholic Church in St. Paul, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife: Sylvia; two sons: Craig (Mary) Witting and Chris Witting; three daughters: Sue (Eugene) Kassmeyer, Terri Delaney and Jan (Jim) Vonderhaar; daughter-in-law: Shelley Witting; ten grandchildren: Ross Witting, Zac, Luke, Clint and Blake Kassmeyer, Tyler and Brandon Delaney, Jacqueline (Joey) Cicchese, Justin and Josie Vonderhaar; sister-in-law: Carol Witting and brother-in-law: Fred Baxter. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son: Rick and granddaughter: Jennifer Delaney, as well as his parents, sisters: Anna Marie Burger, Elizabeth and Carmelita Baxter and brother Bernard.

Leonard was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Houghton, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He farmed and worked at Kruse Implement for 30 years.

Leonard was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, choosing the finest meats to grill for family gatherings and spending time with his friends and grandchildren.Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Friday, April 30, 2021, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point where the family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Apo Mpanda, Father Dennis Hoffman and Deacon Jim Vonderhaar as con-celebrants. Mass will be lived streamed on the church Facebook page and posted on his obituary “Tribute Wall” on our website following the service at: www.schmitzfuneralhomes.com.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point with full military rites presented by the West Point American Legion Holtz-Geers Post #668.
Memorials have been established in his memory for West Point Fire and Rescue or Holy Trinity Catholic Schools.
