Dean Laverne Moore, 89, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his home.
Dean was born on August 23, 1931 in Pontoosuc, Illinois, the son of George and Grace (Brown) Moore. On June 20, 1954 he married Carolyn Driskell at the Blandinsville Christian Church. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2020.
Dean served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until being Honorably Discharged in 1954. Dean farmed all of his life and enjoyed operating his bulldozer. His family owned and operated the True Value Hardware Store in LaHarpe for many years. Dean was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Blandinsville First Christian Church and LaHarpe Lions Club. He served his community as a volunteer for the LaHarpe Ambulance Service and as a Northwestern School Board Member.

Dean enjoyed word search puzzles, watching and reading Westerns and was an avid John Wayne fan.
Survivors include three children, Mike (Bambi) Moore of Blandinsville, Larry “Chip” (Janet) Moore of Macomb and Jennifer (Lanny) Bowman of Blandinsville; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Patsy Moore of Macomb and Penny Moore of Oquawka and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn; his parents and four siblings, Helen Boone, Alice Mapes, Everette Moore and Gene Moore.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Blandinsville First Christian Church with Gordon Blankenship and Andy Dressler officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 30th at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where Masonic Rites will be recited at 5:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Blandinsville First Christian Church, Lamoine Christian Camp, CHOI Peds HEM/UNC (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital local affiliate), MDH Hospice or Blandinsville Rescue Squad.
