BURLINGTON - It took two overtimes to get it done, but Fort Madison's girls soccer team knocked off Burlington for the first time ever Tuesday night. And they did it on the road.

Holy Trinity senior Claire Pothitakis scored 3:26 into the 2nd overtime period to give Fort Madison the win.

Pothitakis scored the other two goals for Fort Madison as well, both in the second half.

Burlington held a 1-0 lead at the break after getting a shot past the Bloodhounds' Kailyn Guzman at the 18:09 mark in the first period.

Pothitakis would get Fort Madison on the board off an assist from Taylor Crabtree with 6:31 gone in the second half. The Fort Madison defense would give up another goal to Burlington at 19:45 to trail again by one at 2-1.

Pothitakis would score again with less than five minutes left in regulation to tie things up and force the overtime periods. She would end up with two shots and six shots on goal on the night.

Coree James, Crabtree and Alana Simpson all had shots on goal. Brandy Walker had three on the night.

Guzman ended the night giving up the two goals while racking up eight saves and four additional touches in the net for the Lady Hounds.

"This was the most exciting win we’ve had all season, not only because we won in overtime, but also because Fort Madison has never beaten Burlington in girls soccer," said head coach Carrie Burken.

"This win holds a great deal of significance for the team as well as the program, showing just have far both have come. Everyone had to work incredibly hard all game long, disrupting Burlington’s runs at goal and building possession on offense."

The win moves the girls to 5-5 on the year and 3-5 in the Southeast Conference. They travel to Davenport West on Friday and then wrap up the regular season with games Monday and Friday next week on the road at Mediapolis and Burlington Notre Dame.
