Rosemary Hurley, 87 years, of West Point, Iowa died at 9:15 am Friday, May 14, 2021 at her home.  She was born January 18, 1934 in Franklin Township, Lee County, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Mamie (Austin) Sylvester.  On December 15, 1955, she married Edgar Lavern “Shorty” Hurley.  He preceded her in death.  

She graduated from Montrose High School.  Rosemary was a homemaker.  Before she was married she worked at Sheaffer Pen, and later she worked at Foster’s Grocery Store in Donnellson.  She was a former member of Calvary First Assembly of God Church, Fort Madison.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, crocheting, reading, traveling, yard sales, summer festivals, and her pets.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra (Michael) Albright of Keokuk, Iowa and Rebecca Yi of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Robert (Coni) Sylvester of Milton, Florida and Harry (Karen) Sylvester of Fort Madison; three grandchildren: Ed Tory, Coleman Yi, and Amber Yi; one great granddaughter BrookLynn Tory; and two great great grandchildren, Serenity and Emerson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.  

The Hurley family has requested Barr Memorial Chapel to care for her cremation.  A graveside service and burial is pending.  A memorial has been established for PAW Animal Shelter, contributions may be made directly to Barr Memorial Chapel, 1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Hurley family and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
