Short-handed Lady Hounds fall to Notre Dame

BY PCC SPORTS - A short-handed Saturday soccer match gave Burlington Notre Dame a narrow 1-0 win over the "electric eleven" girls Fort Madison soccer team 1-0.

Brandy Walker stepped in as goalie and gave up one goal on 11 saves, including three Nike corner kicks. She shut out Notre Dame in the second half, but Fort Madison couldn't find the goal.

The Hounds played without any subs and Burlington Notre Dame had players absent for the state track meet.

Fort Madison senior Claire Pothitakis had three shots on goal blocked. Camille Kruse also had two shots on goal rejected.

"Brandy Walker played goalie, and did a phenomenal job, only giving up one goal on an excellent shot. The “Electric Eleven” put every last ounce of energy into the game, giving everything they had for their teammate," said Head Coach Carrie Burken.

"This didn’t feel like a 1-0 loss, it felt like a win. I’m tremendously proud of the girls tonight, of their willingness to fight and maintain a positive attitude throughout the entire game."

The Lady Hounds take on Davenport North at the Baxter Sports Complex on Tuesday before starting regional action Friday.
