Robu misses state tourney by 3 strokes

NEW SHARON - Holy Trinity Catholic senior Ali Robu suffered a 10 on hole number 1 at the tricky 9-hole Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon Monday to finish with a 99 on the day, three shots out of the top 6.

The Crusader was playing the Class 1A Regional girls golf finals. The top six from each regional advance to the state tournament this week in Ames.

Robu responded with a six on the same rare par 6 hole in the second nine, but couldn't catch up to Breanna Benge of Pleasantville who shot a 96 taking the last state entry from the region.

Lynville-Sully's Greenlee Smock shot a 73 a full 11 strokes ahead of the field. New London's Taylor Phillips carded an 84 for runner-up honors.

Danville's Natalie Wilcox qualified with a 93 which was fourth best on the day. Other qualifiers for the state tournament included Sigourney's Madelynn Hornback and Sidney Morse
