 Donald Eugene “Don” Wheatley, 78 of Keokuk, IA died Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Iowa City VA Hospital in Iowa City, IA.  

     He was born January 18, 1943 in Dallas City, IL the son of Claude and Henrietta Clark Wheatley.

Don was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country until his retirement.

     On September 10, 1984 he was united in marriage to Rhonda Stephens.  She preceded him in death on March 23, 2017. 

     Don was a lifetime member of Abate. 

     Don enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing.  He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed going for long rides.  Above all else, Don loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and his four legged companion, his dog Mabel. He was an avid reader and enjoyed telling stories to anyone that would listen. 

     He is survived by three sons, Justin Wheatley (Amy) of Hiawatha, IA, Shane Wheatley (Lyndsey Levetzow) of Milan, IL and Tyler Wheatley of Des Moines, IA, one daughter, Michelle Hughes (Lee) of Hendersonville, TN, six grandchildren, Leighton Wheatley, Trenton Wheatley, Alexis Wheatley, Chloe Wheatley, Aaron Wheatley and Maximus Wheatley and one niece, Traci Wheatley.

     Besides his wife Rhonda Wheatley, he was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herbert Wheatley and Ed Wheatley.

     A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10 a.m., Friday in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Mike Shea officiating.  

     Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital.
