KEOSAUQUA - A six-run sixth inning proved to be too much as Central Lee falls to 1-3 with an 8-7 loss on the road to Van Buren Thursday night.

The Hawks scored two runs in the top of seventh and had the go-ahead run at the plate.

Kade Myhre and Alex Sandoval were on with one out and advanced into scoring position on wild pitch. After Tanner DeMoss went down swinging, Derrick Denning hit a ground ball to short that got past the Warrior's shortstop for a two-run error making it 8-7, but a strike out ending the inning and the game.

The Hawks led 5-2 after six innings including a four-run fifth sparked by Jonny Snider's double down the left field line. Tommy Eschman would single to put two on and then Cory Jones would get beaned loading the bases.

Corbin Pohren would then ground back to the pitcher who threw to third for a force before getting Pohren at 1st for the double play. But Eschman and Jones would advance to 2nd and 3rd on the play. Eschman would score on a passed ball with Jones taking 3rd. Myhre would then work a walk and swipe second.

Dylan Stuecker would bloop a single just over second base to score both Jones and Myhre to make it 4-2 Central Lee. Sandoval would keep things going with a single to short moving courtesy runner Kayden Ames to 2nd. DeMoss would then single to left scoring Ames for a 5-2 Hawks lead. The Hawks would get thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning.

Van Buren responded with six runs including an RBI triple from Taylor Sprouse with no outs. Sprouse would come around on a passed ball and then Myhre would give up a walk, a single and a double scoring two more runs and giving Van Buren a 6-5 lead.

Another walk and a single produced another run before Van Buren's Casey Yochum came around with what would be the game winner on a grounder mishandled at first. Myhre would give up one more walk before getting a ground out to end the inning with Van Buren up 8-5.

The Hawks (1-4) host West Burlington (4-2) in a 7 p.m. game Friday night.
