"Love Lee County Tour" 3-day event planned

LEE COUNTY - Take a vacation in your own backyard by road tripping to small businesses located off the beaten path. Fourteen rural small businesses have come together for the second year of hosting the “Love Lee County Tour”. The tour will take place Friday, June 11th 12pm-6pm, Saturday, June 12th 10am-6pm and Sunday, June 13th 12pm-4pm.
Apple Tree Antiques is a great first stop, located at 1805 180th Street, Donnellson. They offer a huge selection of antiques and collectables and have a unique barn warehouse that is overflowing with fresh farm estate finds. Also located in northern Lee County is J & L Farms, 2270 Highway 16, West Point. J & L Farms is a family farm offering premium beef & pork; their new beautiful barn has all cuts of meat available. Speer’s Farm Finds & Gift Boutique is also a new stop this year, at 1811 West Point Road. Speer’s presents fresh flowers and fun gifts; they will be featuring cash and carry specials, door prizes, snacks & more for the weekend.


Along with tasty wine samples, history and a whimsical garden, Christian Herschler District Winery & Stagecoach Stop will be hosting a special art show and pottery demonstrations to celebrate the tour. The winery is located at 503 Franklin 6th Street, Donnellson.
Two miles south is Hinterland Dairy, 2149 Franklin Road, where you can find fresh cheese curds and aged cheddar to complement your wine. Hinterland Dairy will be serving up fried curds both Friday and Saturday evenings, along with BBQ pork sandwiches Saturday evening during a family friendly concert featuring the Dusty Ramblers from 4-7pm. Enjoy some coffee with the cows as the Vintage Road Coffee Co’s mobile coffee shop returns home to Lee County for the weekend.
Strawberry donuts, pies, lemonade shakeups and food concessions will be served up fresh at Appleberry Orchard, 2469 Highway 2, Donnellson. Lee County Floral will be set up at Appleberry Orchard with a DIY fresh cut flower bar, faux arrangements and table-scapes. After enjoying Appleberry’s petting farm for all ages, make the short trip to Hillcrest Hostas & More, 2292 Hillcrest Road, Donnellson, where you can relax in their beautiful gardens. Hillcrest Hostas & More has one of the largest selection of perennials, grasses, hostas, daylilies and coneflowers in the area and will be having plant sales during the tour weekend. M.B. Weber Mercantile is located even farther off the beaten path at 2237 234th Street, Donnellson and well worth the trip. They have a small shop packed full of antiques, primitives, and merchandise for everyone’s home décor. Weather permitting, they will have an additional tent set up full of overflowing merchandise and mark down items. Harvestville Farms is found at 1977 Hwy 2, Donnellson and is magically transitioning into summer with fresh produce and yummy offerings at their Pitchfork Café.
Eastern Lee County features a trio of businesses with a western flair. Pick up some elk and bison steaks raised on-farm at Quarry Creek Elk & Bison Company, 1866 303rd Ave, Ft. Madison and check out their large selection of gifts. Four B Tack & More, 3077 170th Street, Ft. Madison, has an entire barn filled with work and western boots, clothing and a full line of horse tack. Walk right over to Angels & Outlaws Boutique, 3079 170th Street, to enjoy a fun shopping experience while you sip on a yummy beverage. They carry a fun, trendy line of clothing along with gifts, purses, jewelry and more.
Make sure you head to southern Lee County to see Jim’s Greenhouse, 2407 280th Street, Montrose, where they have a new retail barn that adds to the adventure of their many greenhouses. They will be having their end-of-season plant sale during the tour, as well as offering fresh summer produce. You won’t regret making the trek to Green Frog Distillery, 3345 270th Avenue, Keokuk, where you can enjoy a short distillery tour, samplings, hats, shirts and whiskey.
