FORT MADISON - This one is under the OOOOOOOh.

After raising close to $30,000 "Jordan's Way in March, PAW animal shelter in Fort Madison is holding another unique and fun charity event Friday night at the LULAC Club.

PAW Animal Shelter Director Sandy Brown has got her hands on some designer purses from such ballyhooed names as Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade, and Liz Claiborne and instead of hording the much-sought-after handbags, she will be tossing them on the BINGO table for lucky winners.

"Instead of the standard BINGO prizes, the prize will be a high-end purse. My daughter said these events are huge in Pennsylvania and people love them, so we thought we'd give it try here," Brown said.

The group also held a matching fundraiser earlier this year with the help of an anonymous donor and raised almost $28,000.

Fundraising is on an accelerated level at the animal shelter as plans are underway to construct a new facility on land the shelter purchased just north of the current location. Initial estimates have the cost of that project at close to $5 million.

Friday's event starts at 5:30 with doors being open at the club located at 1424 36th Street, and BINGO will start to be called at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance by calling the shelter before 3 p.m. on Friday. Otherwise tickets can be purchased at the door for $40. There will be 14 games of BINGO. Brown said there will be other prizes as well for those not so enamored with the designer fair.

Wines, other alcohol, a full detail from Turbo Wash, a chinese auction and lottery tickets will also be among the prizes that are available for the games. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Brown said if you call BINGO and win you will have your pick of the available prizes. There will also be food available at the event.

"This is definitely an adult event," Brown said. "We've even got a couple bottles of Crown Royal Peach, which I hear is very hard to come by. So bring extra money. All of it goes to support PAW."

The shelter is also in the middle of Park-Lane jewelry sale through June 28. 50% of all the sales during that time will go toward the shelter. More information on that is also available on the shelter's Facebook page.
