Eugene A. “Gene” “Fu Check” Foecke, 68, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.
Gene was born on August 8, 1952 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Adrian and Winnie (Winnike) Foecke. On July 29, 2008, he married Nancy Hanley in Lewistown, Montana.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy; one daughter: Nanook (Brett) Arnold of Donnellson; grandchildren: Nolan Leveling, Nadia Leveling, Leah (Justin) Flockhart, Rachel (fiancé Ben Wyatt) Arnold and Hanna Arnold; siblings: Jim (Jeanne) Foecke of Pilot Grove, Iowa, Suzanne (Larry) Mehmert of Cresco, Iowa; Mari Lu (Dave) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Bernie (Deb) Foecke of West Point, Iowa and Joe (Jan) Foecke of Kansas City, Missouri. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son: Edward LeTellier
Gene was a 1970 graduate of Marquette High School. He was a retired farmer and co-owner of the Franklin Tap. Gene enjoyed fishing and raising cattle. He was a steward of the land. Friends may call after 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Franklin Tap.
Memorials have been established in his memory for West Point Fire and Rescue, Great River Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
