WEST POINT - The Holy Trinity girls battled back from a loss Tuesday night in Central Lee to split games with Danville and Winfield Mt. Union on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, the Crusaders trailed 5-2 going into the sixth inning in Danville.

Brooke Mueller opened the sixth with a single. Pitcher Mary Hellige would move Mueller over with a ground out to second. Kayla Box then doubled on a liner to center scoring Mueller to cut the lead to 5-3.

Danville would get the next two HTC hitters to retire the side.

Hellige would give up a single to open the bottom half. Makenzie Morris would sacrifice the runner to second on a bunt down the third base line. Hellige would give up a walk to put two runners on, but a liner to Teagan Snaadt at second resulted in a double play when she caught Carlea Beckman at second to end the inning.

HTC would get three more in the top of the seventh. Kelly Meierotto would reach on an error on a pop fly. Snaadt would line out to center for the first out. But Haile Cain would double to left moving courtesy runner Rachel Menke to third. Anna Sobczak would then single to center scoring Menke. Cain would come around to score on an error on the play that also moved Sobczak to second.

Hellige would then smack a triple to the opposite field scoring Sobczak with what would be the game winner. Box would strike out to end the inning.

Hellige would then get two groundouts and pop out in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win.

Cain and Sobczak each had three hits in the game and scored two runs a piece. Hellige also was 3-of-4 with an RBI. Mueller, Box and Jenna DePrima also had hits for Holy Trinity.

On Friday, the Crusaders gave up the game-winning run in the fifth in a close 2-1 loss to Winfield-Mt. Union.

With the score tied at 1 going into the bottom of the fifth in Winfield, the Lady Wolves Carlee Sloan reached on a throwing error and would advance to second. She would move to third on a sacrifice bunt and come around to score what would be the deciding run on a single to left by Madie Anderson.

Hellige would get the next two hitters to end the inning. Holy Trinity would go three-up, three-down in the top of the sixth and seventh to allow Anderson to hold on for the win.

Holy Trinity would get their sole run when Cain homered on a line drive to left field on a 2-1 count with no outs in the top of the fourth. That would be the only base runner of the night for the Crusaders who fall to 4-9 on the year.

Hellige went six innings and gave up six hits and two runs, one earned. She struck out one and walked one in the loss.

HTC takes on New London in a 5:30 varsity contest Tuesday night at South Park. The game was moved up due to the threat of rain.
