Central Lee boys at .500 with loss to BND

BURLINGTON - The Central Lee Hawks baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision to Burlington Notre Dame on the road Monday night.

The Hawks put up four runs in the fifth, but had already spotted the Nikes a 7-1 lead going into the inning.

Notre Dame added an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth and held the Hawks in check in the sixth and seventh to get the win.

Tommy Eschman went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Hawks and had 2 RBI. His two-run single to right scored Jonny Snider and Alex Sandoval. Kade Myhre and Tanner DeMoss had the other hits in the loss. Myhre's hit was an RBI double as part of the four-run fourth.

Myhre went four innings on the mound surrendering eight runs, six earned on four hits. He struck out seven and walked five. Corbin Pohren came on in relief for the final two innings and didn't allow a hit or a run on 19 pitches.

Brady Oleson got the win for Notre Dame. Carson Chiprez was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and two runs scored to lead the Nikes on offense.

Central Lee falls to 7-7 (4-6 Southeast Iowa Superconference South), while Notre Dame improves to 8-8 (5-4).

The boys are coming off an 11-5 win over Hillcrest Academy Friday night, but lost 9-1 to New London on Thursday and 10-0 in a five-inning affair. The Hawks take on Lone Tree tonight in a 7 p.m. game.
