MUSCATINE - Class 5A No. 2-ranked Muscatine jumped all over Fort Madison in both games of a softball doubleheader at Kent Stein Park in Muscatine Tuesday night in a makeup set.

The Muskies put up six runs in the first inning of both games enroute to a 12-0, 11-0 sweep.

In the opener, Fort Madison managed just three hits, one each from Emily Steffensmeier, Erika Kruse and McKenna Cashman in just three innings. Kruse took the loss going two innings and giving up all 12 runs, only 5 earned, while scattering 10 hits and striking out one.

Fort Madison had just three base runners in the game, one was caught stealing in the top of the first.

In the night cap, the Hounds didn't have much more success against the 22-3 Muskies at the plate. Only Kruse and Lauryn Helmick reached base on hits. Neeley Rehm and Logan Johnson each drew walks.

The Hounds had the bases loaded in the top of the first with Johnson and Rehm opening the game with walks. Kruse singled on a liner to left which held Neeley up at third. Lexi Whaley and Helmic then fanned to end the inning leaving the bases full.

Fort Madison would go 1-2-3 in the second and third and get a single from Helmick with two outs in the top of the 4th, but a strike out would end the inning with Muscatine up 11-0. Helmick would hold the Muskies scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lady Hounds couldn't get the two runs across the plate to prevent the 10-run rule ending the game.

Rehm took the loss going three innings and giving up four hits, and five runs three earned while walking four and fanning one. Helmick pitched the final inning giving up three hits and six runs, while walking three.

The Lady Hounds are off until Thursday when they travel to Keokuk for a doubleheader at Joyce Park. They then travel to Cedar Rapids for the Linn-Mar/Alburnette weekend tourney starting Friday morning.
