FORT MADISON - The 4th of July launch of the "Light Up the Sky This 4th of July" will be slightly different this year, according to Fort Madison Partner's Executive Director Tim Gobble.

“Due to the Business 61 construction, the 2021 Fort Madison Fireworks production will be moved a bit so citizens can watch the show comfortably and safely," Gobble said.

These changes will include the following:
  • The fireworks will be launched from the frontage road along the Mississippi in Riverview Park; so that walking path will be closed all day.
  • The Sixth Street entrance to the park will remain open for boaters to access the marina and safely launch their boats, but will be closed prior to the show for safety.
  • Business 61 will be closed from 2nd to 6th Street to vehicular traffic. However, viewers will be able to sit on the newly finished section of highway during the presentation.

As liability concerns prohibit using the construction zone from 6th Street to 10th Street and the Pen City parking lot for viewing, attendees are asked to not go beyond the barricades or be around the equipment. Detouring of south and north bound traffic will be directed to Avenues E and F.
This year marks the the 13th year that Fort Madison Partners, the combined efforts of the Chamber of Commerce, EDC, and FM SIRRC, Beautification Foundation and Sports Complex will coordinate the display along with J&M Displays and the City of Fort Madison.

“Even with the changes in launch sites, we are excited to keep this event to the caliber you have grown accustomed to from past years and still be able to view over the river," Gobble said.

It takes the work of many to create this spectacular celebration, and we are thankful for those community members that continue to financially support this. The fireworks display depends on this type of support and without it, the display would not happen.

A very special thank you to our major sponsors, including: Scotts Miracle Gro, Dave’s Marine, Connection Bank & Insurance, Mohrfeld Solar, Pilot Grove Savings Bank, Family Dentistry, Shottenkirk, Inc., MidWest One Bank, OCI/Iowa Fertilizer, Fort Madison Community Hospital & Jim Baier, Inc.

“Their continued community support has made this year’s display possible. A full listing of ‘Thank Yous’ will follow the display and I hope that everyone in the community will thank them when patronizing their establishments”.
