Adrian G. Lampe, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Houghton, Iowa, passed away at 4:37 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Adrian was born on September 5, 1930 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Henry and Rose (Mehmert) Lampe. On June 26, 1954, he married Barbara J. Auge at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara; children: Kevin (Wendy) Lampe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brian (Anna) Lampe of Clive, Iowa; Melanie (Mark) Broadway of Adrian, Michigan, Lisa (John) Hansen of Houghton, Iowa; Lori (Mike) Fairlie of Burlington, Iowa and Ivan Gonzalez of Santiago Chile and Texas; daughter-in-law: Vada Lampe of Houghton, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Randy Lampe; grandsons: Kyle Hansen and Brent Broadway; brothers: Adolf, Leonard, Clarence, Ernie, Albert, Lester and Raymond and sisters: Agnes, Bernice and Mildred.

Adrian was raised on a farm in Cotton Wood, Iowa, in a large family of eleven children. He entered into the Marines in 1951 and served for two years and then worked as a farmer, salesman and estate planner, before retiring in 2000. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. He helped to rebuild the church after a fire. Adrian was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, a charter member of Plan Progress of Houghton, Houghton Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance, Fort Madison Booster Club, and American Legion. He served on the Houghton town council, coached little league baseball, played on the Mt. Hamill Tap and Houghton Knights of Columbus pool leagues, Houghton bowling league and Houghton men’s slow pitch team. Adrian was an avid Cubs fan and used to sit by the radio with his dad listening to the Cubs games. He treasured the times he spent watching the Cubs in person and taking his family to see a game. He farmed until 1959. Some of Adrian’s greatest joys were his twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He was also very proud of each of his children and loved them very much. Barb was the love of his life and they spent two days short of sixty-seven years together. Family and faith meant everything to him. He enjoyed all the time spent with family at special occasions, holidays and barbeques. He loved to watch his sons and grandsons wrestle. Adrian and Barb had opened their home to two American Field Service students, one from Chile and one from South Africa. Adrian loved to play pitch with his pitch buddies; Edlef Boysen, Lamoine Witte, Ed Frank, and Hartzell Hillyard. They had as much time having fun as they did getting into trouble. Adrian and Barb travelled to Europe to find family connections and history and to South America, Mexico, Canada and many places in the United States. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona for eleven years.The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Church in Houghton, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant. Mass will be live streamed on the church Facebook page and posted on his obituary “Tribute Wall” on our website following the service at: www.schmitzfuneralhomes.com.
Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Houghton with a flag presentation by the West Point American Legion Holtz - Geers Post #668.
A memorial has been established in his memory for Great River Hospice.
