KALONA - Mary Hellige had four hits to highlight Holy Trinity Catholic's 13-3 win over Highland Thursday afternoon.

Hellige went 4 for 5 at the plate and knocked in seven runs as the Crusaders raced out to a 7-0- lead after four innings.

The sophomore doubled in the first inning scoring Haile Cain and Anna Sobczak giving HTC an early 2-0 lead. Hellige then connected on another double in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded to drive in three runs giving HTC at 7-0 advantage.

Hillcrest would put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 7-3, but a six-run 7th inning put the game away for the Crusaders. Hellige had an RBI single in that inning.

Cain, Rachel Menke, Kelli Meierotto and Laura Mehmert all had two-hit games. Cain scored four times in the win. Hellige went all seven innings for the Crusaders giving up just four hits and three runs, while striking out five and walking one.

The Crusaders then traveled to Highland for a Thursday night game.

The Huskies (20-6) jumped on the board early with a run in the first, and three in the second off Hellige working her second game of the day.

But it was a six-run fourth inning highlighted by a two-run homer by sophomore Abbi Stransky that put the game out of reach.

The Crusaders were held without a run when the 10-run rule kicked in in the 5th inning.

HTC had hits from Sobczak, Mehmert, Teegan Snaadt and another double from Hellige. Mehmert's and Snaadt's hits came consecutively in the top of the 5th with one out to put two runners on. Back-to-back fielder's choice's put runners at second and third with two outs, but a fly out to right ended the contest in the fifth with HTC down 11-0.

Hellige went four innings surrendering 11 runs, just four earned on 10 hits, while striking out three and walking two.

HTC falls to 6-15 on the year and 4-8 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference.

The Crusaders open Class 1A Region 8 post season action Tuesday night against 9-15 Lone Tree with a 7 p.m. start time at South Park in West Point.
