Russell Suter, 94 of Keokuk, IA died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at his home.

    He was born May 6, 1927 in Wyaconda, MO the son of Ellsworth and Lula Rowe Suter. He was united in marriage on July 29, 1972 in Kahoka, MO, to his best friend, Deborah Watson, who walked beside him every step of the way through forty-nine years of marriage. She survives. 

     He is also survived by three sons, Jack Suter (Linda) of Durham, MO, Larry Suter (Desi) of Alta, IA, Terry Suter (Nora) of Palmyra, MO, three daughters, Sandy Hatfield of LaBelle, MO, Angie Hanson (Jim) of Marion, IL, Lora Washburn (Jeff Ewart) of Keokuk, eighteen grandchildren, David Suter, Melissa Geist, Brandy Geist, Monica Mattson, Curtis Robbins, Christopher Robbins, TJ Suter, Crystal Breault, Whitney Edwardson, Bethany Meyers, Danielle Hambleton, Tyler Ewart, Dustin Hanson, Austin Hanson, Johanna Hanson, Weston Hanson, Kevin Fountain, Sarah Fountain, forty-seven great grandchildren, one brother, Johnny Suter (Joyce) of Palmyra, MO and one brother in law, Stan Watson of Keokuk.

     Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law, Gerald and Lucille Watson, three grandsons, Andrew Suter, Kyle Suter and Joey Fountain, and one granddaughter, Tammy Geist. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

     Russell was employed as a brick layer and worked construction in his younger years.  He was later employed by Keokuk Area Hospital where he worked in maintenance until he retired in May of 1992. 

     Russell enjoyed fishing, and especially spending time with his family, grandkids, and great grandkids.  He was a talented woodworker and made cradles for each of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed tinkering around in his garage and keeping it in immaculate order. 

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Calvin Stevens officiating.   Burial with military rites will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery. 

     Visitation will be held after 3 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6 -8 p.m.
