Central Lee comes up short at Van Buren

KEOSAUQUA - Central Lee got a 3-yard touchdown from freshman Kayden Calfee deep in the second quarter, but the Hawks fell 46-6 to open the season Friday night on the road at Van Buren.

Calfee finished 5-5 through the air after coming for senior Bryce Finney and racked up 67 yards

The Hawks hung around with the Warriors in the first quarter trailing just 8-0 after Van Buren scored a rushing touchdown and added the two-point conversion.

Van Buren would score on another rushing touchdown with six minutes left in the first half, but Central Lee then put together it's only scoring driving capped by Calfee's run.

The Warriors would put up two more scores in the third quarter on a pass play and rushing score to go up 40-6. They would add another rushing touchdown with 7 minutes left to get the running clock.

Sophomore Hunter Gregory led the Hawks with 55 yards on the ground and Corey Jones racked up seven tackles to lead the Hawks defense.

Central Lee will put up their 0-1 record against Cardinal on Friday in Donnellson.
