He was a talented craftsman, creating beautiful items like intricate beadwork, homemade clocks and more. In his younger years, you could often find him at flea markets, both as a vendor and collector. Other interests included a love of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, movies, and spending time with friends and family.

DJ is survived by four children: Sarah (Craig) Krogmeier of Kahoka, Missouri, Helena (Tony) Abbey of Keokuk, Donald (Traci) Wright of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Jason (Danielle) Wright of Kahoka, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren: Alexandra Brothers, Kyle Schmitt, Cory McElhoe, Callista Krogmeier, Annastasia Krogmeier, Livinnia Corvaia, Luke Krogmeier, Otylya Krogmeier, Dylan Kite, Colton Kite, Kiawntae Smith, Dejiah Smith, Skarlett Hoover and River Wright; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother David Gray of Keokuk.

DJ is preceded in death by his mother Helen and his grandson Damon Krogmeier.

DJ’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 10 am on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. A celebration of life with food and refreshments will be held at the Odd Fellows Lodge in Keokuk directly after the service.
