ELDON - The Central Lee Middle School football teams played a rare combined football game Thursday due to a shortage of players on the Cardinal team.

The 7th and 8th grade teams played together and Central Lee came away with a 40-6 win.

Colton Taft and Gage Van Ausdall both had two rushing touchdown for the Hawks. Evan Fogerty and Brett Cook also had rushing touchdowns in the win.

Will Hayes and Kenny McFadden each had five solo tackles. Hayes registered a quarterback sack.

“We expected to play well. Our players have been practicing at a high level and we felt prepared to play. We have a lot of weapons on our team and the 7thand 8thgraders all mesh well together. It’s fun to see kids get along well and be great teammates. Our kids are hungry for success and really enjoy the game. We only had 1 penalty in the game which speaks to how focused we were for this season opener. We will keep working hard to improve on the things we can do better," said coach Kritter Hayes

“The team played hard and we moved the ball well with a lot of different players on the field. Our defense really got after it and the team tackled great Our kickoff team set the tone by not allowing Cardinal good field position and did that throughout the game. Our line opened up holes all game for our running backs to get through. We are looking forward to getting better as we move along," said coach Kent Brisby

The Central Lee Middle School football team is now 1-0 on the season. They will be at home on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 vs. Van Buren. Kickoff is at 5pm
