Danny Lee Burgess, 76, of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.

     He was born March 29, 1945 in Keokuk, IA the son of Elmer Grandin and Mildred Viola Thompson Burgess. 

     On February 13, 1968 Danny was united in marriage to Linda Lou Stroud in Quincy, IL.  She survives.

     Other survivors include six children, Cassie (Mike) Westermeyer of Keokuk, Brenda (Robbie) Smith of Luray, MO, David (Jeni) Burgess of  Wayland, MO, Danny (Kim Steele) Burgess of Keokuk, Kyle Burgess of Canton, MO and Terri Lynn (Dave) Lorenz of Omaha, NE and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by six siblings, Rick (Sue) Burgess of Keokuk, Sally Bennett of Keokuk, Kim (Phil) Korschgen of Keokuk, Jessie McGee of Ft. Madison, IA, Bob (Wanda) McGee of Wyoming, and David (Rebecah) Burgess of Keokuk, one half-sister, Annie (Earl) Vermeesch of Keokuk, one brother-in-law, Butch Stroud of Davenport and special friend, Earl Hoskins of Keokuk.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Spike Burgess, John Burgess, Ellie McGee, Kevin McGee, Elmer Ray Burgess, John Burgess and Thelma Sherrill, step-son Kenneth Couchman, grandson, Nathan Cook and brother-in-law, Ralph Bennett.

     Danny had been employed at several businesses through the years, including, City of Keokuk, St. Louis Die Cast in Keokuk, Service Rubber in Rock Island, IL, IBP in Columbus Junction, IA and most recently by Feinburgs Metal Recycling in Ft. Madison, IA.

     Danny was a baseball enthusiast and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.  In his younger years, Danny enjoyed horseback riding.  He loved watching western movies and especially enjoyed watching his favorite actor, John Wayne “The Duke”.  Danny treasured the time he spent with his family and loved celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with good times and great food.  Danny loved the companionship of his two dogs, Poppy and Sadie.

    A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family meeting with friends at that time.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery following the visitation.
