FMAAA announces Art-In-Central-Park winners

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Area Arts Association's annual art fair in Central Park was by all accounts a success this year.
We had a nice cross section of artists on hand and the weather was gorgeous - not a raindrop in sight and a beautiful breeze.

The artists received quite a few shoppers in their booths and reported pretty steady traffic through the day.

The entertainment was outstanding. Lee County Bank sponsored the opener. Fort Madison Middle School's Lisa Knipe brought in the Drumline to do a buckets number to kick off the day. "Plastik Surgery '' brought smiles all around along with the follow-up drumline standards.

Double Vision, sponsored by Jim Baier, Inc, was a huge hit playing many favorites. Followed by BlueZillion and their sizzling hot tunes for the main two-hour time slot, sponsored by MidWest One Bank.

Tony Alexander, owner of the local restaurant Major Oak, finished out the line-up with his soulful sounds, again sponsored by Lee County Bank. Seither and Cherry sponsored the Kid's Zone which was filled with pumpkin painters, bead makers, and budding artists. CoalHaus Pizza was on hand filling Central Park with good smells and serving up their tasty wood-fired gourmet pizzas. We are so grateful to our sponsors for their support to make this popular community event a reality.

The artists come out to sell their wares, but they also participate in some friendly competition.

Winners of this year's Purchase Awards were Robin Fisher for her graphite washes, Curt Swarm for his metal sculpture, and Molly Dillon for her photography in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.

Booth Awards were bestowed upon Bill Hall in first place for his interactive painting sessions running throughout the day, with the award sponsored by the Kingsley Inn. Craig Wills was awarded 2nd place for his innovative display of glass wares, receiving gift certificates from SubArena and Halls Ice Cream along with a lovely mum courtesy of Harvestville Farms. Amber John received 3rd place for her welcoming display, also receiving a mum from Harvestville Farms and a beautiful opaline and crystal necklace courtesy of local artist and FMAAA member Linda Hardy.
