Holy Trinity boys 1st, Central Lee 2nd at VB cross country

HTC's Pothitakis boys and Central Lee's Anderson and Brumble all place top 5

VAN BUREN - Mitchell and Jacob Pothitakis captured 2nd and 4th place at Indian Lakes in Keosauqua to lead Holy Trinity Catholic to a first-place finish at the Indian Lakes event Tuesday.

Gavin Grove of Cardinal won the event with an 18:08, while Mitchell Pothitakis came in second at 19:02 and Jacob Pothitakis came in at 20:10.

Central Lee's Grant Anderson took third place with an 19:57 to lead the Hawks to a second-place finish.

HTC finished with 32 points, while Central Lee's top five runners accounted for 49 points.

Sheldon Kruse came in sixth overall and third for the Crusaders with a time of 21 flat. Tate Green and Maddux Rung rounded out the scoring positions for HTC placing seventh and 13th overall.

Following Anderson at Central Lee in the boys run was Leo Thomas at 8th with a 21:12 mark. Ayden Kent finished 10th overall and third for the Hawks at 21:28. Jackson Denning and Zach Manwill were the final scoring runners for the Hawks coming in 12th and 16th respectively.

Abby Brumble led the Lady Hawks with a 4th-place finish overall at 26:01. The Central Lee girls had 51 points to finish second to Cardinal, which won with 31 points.

Erika Chambers was seventh overall with a 26:25. Lauren Sanders (11th), Abby Britt (14th), and Aubrey Hand (15th) wrapped up the scoring for the Central Lee girls.

In the junior varsity girls run Ellie Hellman took 2nd at 16:28 in the 2000 meter run for Holy Trinity. Allison Gruntmier was 4th for Central Lee.

In the boys junior high race, Central Lee's Austin Fogarty finished sixth overall with a 17:18. Tanner Williams was the top runner from HTC with a seven\th place finish at 17:30. Layne Rung of Holy Trinity and Kyler Mulligan from Central Lee finished eighth and ninth respectively.
