Hawks fall to Davis County

DONNELLSON - Davis County jumped out to a quick 22-0 1st quarter lead as the Mustangs beat Central Lee 52-7 Friday night.

Davis County scored three touchdowns in the opening period and converted two 2-point conversions to set the tone for the Homecoming evening in Donnellson.

A pick-six started things in the second quarter for Davis County with about two minutes gone to make it 30-0. The Mustangs would add a field goal and another rushing touchdown before halftime to lead 41-0 and get a running clock to start the second half. Davis County would score again half way through the third period on a pass play and 2-point conversion for a 49-0 lead.

A Davis County field goal at the 5:47 mark of the final period was followed in the Hawk's next possession by a 35-yard touchdown pass from Kayden Calfee to Tanner DeMoss with 2:39 left in the game. Dante Merschman's extra point set the final score.

Calfee and Bryce Finney combined for 112 yards passing and the one touchdown. Freshman Chase Johnson led the Hawks on the ground with 31 yards on eight carries. DeMoss had 41 yards on two catches and the score.

Finney had 3.5 tackles on the night. Jonny Snider, Clayton Geerdes and Josh Hawk all had three tackles.

The Hawks fall to 0-6 on the year and travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday.
