Pen City Current obituary – William J. Groene, 55, formerly of Donnellson

William Joseph "Bill" Groene, age 55, of Keller, TX, and formerly of Fort Madison died, September 27, 2021.

William Joseph “Bill” Groene, age 55, of Keller, TX, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021.   He was born on February 28, 1966, in Fort Madison, IA, the son of Lester Joseph and Barbara Ann (Pranger) Groene.

     On February 15, 1992, Bill married Lisa Annette Stark in Princeton, Missouri. She survives of the home. 

     Bill grew up in Donnellson, IA, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, West Point, IA.  He was a 1984 graduate of Central Lee CSD. He received a B.A. in education from Iowa State University in 1989 and later a Masters of Education from the University of North Texas and a Principal Certification from the University of Texas at Arlington.

     He was a beloved and devoted high school teacher at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, TX, for 31 years, teaching ninth-grade Biology. Mr. Groene loved his students dearly and the Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes.

     Bill loved the Dallas Cowboys, watching his girls play soccer and basketball, fishing, playing games at Christmas time with his nieces and nephews, and his dog, Champ.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

     In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughters, Hayden Annette Groene and Emerson Annette Groene, both of the home; sisters, Deb Krebill and Linda (Dennis) Krehbiel, both of Donnellson, IA; brothers, Greg (Anna) Groene, Leawood, KS and Rick (LeeAnn) Groene, Marion, IA.  Bill touched many lives throughout his life of teaching and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.  

     Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2 at the United Methodist Church, Princeton, MO, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Princeton, MO. Burial will follow in Early Cemetery, Mercer, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
